Editors Letter

Channuka has gone and another year has flown by. It is great seeing our friends at our monthly teas and to catch up on their news of the past month.

Once again we never tire of thanking all our volunteers who give their valuable time in helping others. For making life easier for people who ‘need a little help from their friends’.

We would also like to thank you all for your effort to attend our teas. As often the weather is inclement and you sometimes don’t feel at your best. Without you there, there would be no Helping Hands tea.  We also thank all the people who contributed their stories.  This newsletter is for you and about you.

I must give a special thank you to Liz Shaw and Joanne Greenwood who really made the bingo such fun at the last tea.

There is a Quirky Quiz and high tea on Sunday 7th January at the Ajex Centre, Palmeira Avenue. All contributions and attendees will be greatly appreciated. If you have any ideas on how we can raise more funds towards our bus please let us know. Once again we thank you all for your support and look forward to seeing you all soon.

For most of my life I have nursed family members and until a year ago I attended the Helping Hands monthly teas and I went to Ralli Hall every week. I was known, as lightning as I was always running and always happy to help anyone in need. About a year ago I started having breathing problems and gradually I have been less and less able to walk. Although in my 90’s I have always been very independent. I was very loath to ask for any help until I was introduced to Helping Hands. They have been absolutely wonderful. They have taken me to see specialists, do my shopping and are always there for me. Everyone is kind and nothing is too much trouble. All the people I have seen have been cheerful and more than obliging. Special thanks must go to Lily Korn-Bernstock who is especially kind and thoughtful. I would recommend anyone who needs help not to hesitate to call Helping Hands They are there for us all at the end of the phone.  Many thanks.
